Saudi Quality Grade Statements on Food Product Labels Requirements

Subject: On the Use of Quality Grade / Classification Statements on Food Product Labels
Date: 4 December 2025 (corresponding to 10/06/1447 AH)

 

In light of the role of the Saudi Food & Drug Authority in ensuring the safety and quality of food products, and as part of its continued efforts to monitor and supervise locally produced and imported food products presented in the markets, the Authority wishes to emphasize the following:

First: All food manufacturers and importers, when indicating a quality grade or quality classification of a food product on the product’s packaging label, must ensure that such grade or classification of the product complies with the requirements set forth in the approved technical regulations and specifications, and must provide proof of this by the following means:

  • Attach a Shipment Certificate of Conformity issued by one of the conformity assessment bodies designated by the Authority together with the clearance request, proving the accuracy of the “grade / quality classification” stated on the label of the imported food product.
  • Submit a technical analysis report issued by one of the conformity assessment bodies designated by the Authority for testing activities, proving the accuracy of the “grade / quality classification” stated on the label of the locally produced food product.

Second: The Authority will take all regulatory measures in the event of non-compliance with the provisions of this circular after six (6) months from the date of issuance of the circular.
