On February 5, 2026, the Department of Food Safety Standards and Monitoring & Evaluation of the National Health Commission (NHC) of the People’s Republic of China released the Announcement on 22 “Three New Foods,” Including Gardenia Oil (Announcement No. 1 of 2026).
In accordance with the Food Safety Law of the People’s Republic of China, expert panels reviewed and approved the relevant safety assessment materials. The announcement covers a total of 22 “Three New Foods,” including:
- Five new food raw materials: Gardenia oil, Xiang Yu peony flower, alginate oligosaccharide, Bifidobacterium longum subsp. infantis YLGB-1496, and camelina seed oil;
- Eleven new food additive varieties: D-psicose 3-epimerase, glucose isomerase (xylose isomerase), deaminase, sucrose 1-fructosyltransferase, 3’-sialyllactose sodium salt, carbon dioxide, gellan gum, bentonite, trans-anethole (synthetic), 2’-fucosyllactose, and lacto-N-neotetraose;
- Six new food-related product varieties: calcium sulfate, erucamide, cobalt bis(2-ethylhexanoate), poly(ethylene 2,5-furandicarboxylate), copolymer of ethyl acrylate, methacrylic acid and styrene, and 1,3-benzenedicarboxylic acid polymer with 1,4-benzenedicarboxylic acid, 1,4-cyclohexanedimethanol, decanedioic acid and 2,2-dimethyl-1,3-propanediol.
The above matters are hereby announced by the National Health Commission.
