From August 19 to 21, 2025, the Annual Meeting of the Color Additives Professional Committee of the China Food Additives and Ingredients Association and the Forum on High-Quality Development of the Color Additives Industry was successfully held in Yinchuan, Ningxia, hosted by the China Food Additives and Ingredients Association and organized by Guangzhou Leader Biological Technology Co., Ltd.
Ms. Ashley Liang Wang, Partner of BYSEE, was invited to deliver a keynote presentation entitled “Foresee Risks · Cooperate for Compliance.” Her speech, grounded in the global regulatory landscape, offered an in-depth interpretation of the latest developments in the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) food color regulations, sparking broad attention and active discussions among participants.
In her presentation, Ms. Wang systematically analyzed a series of major FDA initiatives introduced since 2025, including:
· Phase-out of petroleum-based synthetic colors: stepwise elimination of key FD&C synthetic colors such as Red No. 3, Yellow No. 5, Yellow No. 6, Blue No. 1, Blue No. 2, and Green No. 3;
· Accelerated approval of natural alternatives: authorizing several new natural color additives, including Galdieria blue extract, butterfly pea extract, calcium phosphate, and Gardenia blue;
· Upgraded GRAS framework and regulatory oversight: advancing faster review pathways for natural colorants and food additives, with reinforced transparency and scientific rigor.
Ms. Wang emphasized that new plant-derived color additives must undergo the FDA’s Color Additive Petition process and maintain proactive engagement with the Office of Food Additive Safety (OFAS). Ms. Wang’s professional insights were widely recognized and praised by attending experts. Many participants commented that BYSEE’s contribution provided a clearer understanding of the latest FDA regulatory trends and their strategic implications for Chinese enterprises.
